Hi Everyone! I have a HOT NEW POST on YouTube that is totally on FIRE! Guitar players are always saying how Carlos Santana uses the Dorian Scale Mode to play guitar solos in his songs, but no one explains quite how he does it. That’s over. My new video “How Carlos Santana Uses The Dorian Scale Mode To Create Guitar Solos” not only explains the Dorian Mode itself, but features examples of how Carlos pulls notes out it to play “Oye Como Va” one of his most popular recordings. It also explains specifically WHICH Dorian scale mode that he plays from in that song. Use the link below to check it out! Thanks for watching EricBlackmonMusic YouTube!

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL FROM EricBlackmonMusic!
Booker T. & the M.G.’s is an instrumental R&B/funk band that was influential in shaping the sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones(organ), Steve Cropper(guitar), Al Jackson Jr.(drums) and Lewie Steinberg(bass) replaced in 1965 by bassist Duck Dunn. In the 1960s, as members of the house band of Stax Records, they played on hundreds of recordings by artists such as Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor and Albert King. They also released instrumental records under their own name, of which the best known is the 1962 hit single “Green Onions”. As originators of the unique Stax sound, the group was one of the most prolific, respected, and imitated of its era. By the mid-1960s, bands on both sides of the Atlantic were trying to sound like Booker T. & the M.G.’s.
When I was a youngster learning to play guitar, I spent many hours imitating MG’s guitarist Steve Cropper, learning every one of their songs and Steve’s solos. I will be forever influenced by Steve Cropper’s expressive R&B guitar solo style.
I have put together a YouTube lesson tutorial set featuring my favorite tune by the MG’s, “Green Onions”. Use the link below to check it out!
The Christmas Holidays are approaching, and it is time to learn that Christmas favorite on piano, “Linus And Lucy” from Charlie Brown Christmas by Vince Guaraldi on piano!

Behind nearly every successful rock singer in a band is a great GUITARIST! For many years Mike Campbell has been the lead guitarist for Tom Petty and co-wrote many of the Heartbreaker’s hit songs! I have completed a YouTube guitar lesson covering the guitar leads and chord changes for “Breakdown”, one of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers most famous songs. You can check them out by using the YouTube links below!
Tom Petty R.I.P. 1950 -2017
Tom Petty, a singer, songwriter and guitarist who melded California rock with deep, stubborn Southern heritage vocals to produce a long string of durable hits, died on Monday in Los Angeles. He was 66.
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers were always one of my favorite rock bands. Tom’s unique voice and Mike Campbell’s bluesy guitar riffs got my attention right away when I first heard “Damn The Topedos” many years ago.
His songs were staples of rock radio for decades, and “Refugee” has always been my all-time favorite. I felt that I had to do something to honor Tom on my YouTube channel, so I have produced and posted a tutorial “How To Play Refugee On Guitar”.

I hope to add more Tom Petty music tutorials as time to produce is available. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family and remaining band members. He will surely be missed.
