I LOVE your instructional videos! I’d like to make a request for you to do Sweet Sticky Thing by The Ohio Players. I found the chords online (link below) but can’t figure out the chord fingering on some (like AM& & Bsus4 9) to make it sound right.

I am getting old and recovering from a bad motorcycle wreck,Started playing again mainly open G with one finger barre chord and simple solos.
Your lessons are perfect and you are an incredible instructor.
I use to run a recording studio in the 60s and promoted concerts and recognize great

I would also like to know what brand and what gauge you use for your guitar strings.

I use D’addario EXL120+ electric strings almost exclusively for my electrics. The guage is 9.5-44. They are an in-between gauge that bends like a 9 set, but have the meatly sound of a 10 set. Can I just thank you for being my most helpful and clearly understood guitar teacher on YouTube. I have only been playing a year and haven’t made as much progression as perhaps I should, because I can’t afford to have private tutorial – but after recently discovering your video tutorials – I am finally learning to play blues music, which I have always loved to hear. Eric, you have broken down so many lessons into a simple form for simple minds like mine and others, likewise I applaud your instructions. I started playing 4-5 years ago and could never get my head around major and minor transitions but your video of Am to C major in the same position(as opposed to playing the Am pentatonic and then moving up the frets to play C major) has inspired me to now take my playing to a whole new level of consciousness and as a result I now can see the entire neck in a whole new perspective. Your soul has remarkably filtered down into your mind an easy way of understanding music and passing it along. Now that I have retired from work its a joy to play without thinking and let it flow naturally, I also found that playing in the same position has made it much easier to speed up or slow down according to the feel. Thanks so much. Please do a few more lessons on Joe Bonamassa, as he uses phrasing that is unique to blues.

yes I d/l the bonamassa vid. . I was thinkg more along the lines of his older bluesy stuff, like songs from New day yesterday and blues deluxe cd’s. do you ever get over to Raleigh? Hi! I have been to Raleigh one time in my entire life, when a band I was in did a gig up there! When I get a chance(I have no idea when that will be) I will take a look at Joe’s older stuff. Thank you for teaching my husband how to play old school, real 12 bar blues, I grew up in Hudson Ohio between Akron and Cleveland, and 20 minutes from Kent. From the age of 14 I was going into little bars to see everyone from Robert Jr Lockwood to BB and Johnny Winter to Muddy and all the rest of the great bluesmen. Hi Eric,
Old Geezer here been playing pedal steel and guitar or over 50 years and not proud to say I can still learn. You have a lot of useful info and thanks for sharing. Regarding the capo on a string at the end of the headstock. A capo can eat into the finish on lacquer guitars and so can the clip on tuners. Mainly Gibson and Martin or high end guitars have lacquer finishes. I learned the hard way about this so just passing along a tip.

Thanks for the indirect lessons. As a beginner, what kind of acoustic guitar would you recommend – here’s my problem – short stubby fingers. I have a Takemini G series that seems too small. I like it and I am learning on it but I mute higher strings and twang the lower ones. Driving me nuts.

OK, really silly question from a beginner…. Trying to play 12 bar blues you posted for beginners. I understand and can play the 3 chords, but I simply can not make the strum sound like what you do. I have tried the U-D-U-D-U-D using 8th notes, but sounds nothing like what you do. Any chance of seeing your right hand strumming on this strum? I know it is several years old, but just saw it and would really like to be able to play just anything that sounds like music.

There are no silly questions, only unasked ones. I too am a beginner and blues is my love as well. Eric’s suggestions regarding the other videos are helpful I’ve also found setting a metronome (available on line or built in to many tuners) at a comfortable pace and timing that “up” just before the “and” will come around as will speed.
Hey, your getting advice from a guy who’s sense of rhythm is like Steve Martin’s in his first movie The Jerk. Google it, it’s worth a thousand words.

OK, thanks for both replies. I had missed the other videos where you actually see the strumming hand. I can make more / better sound using the D/U/U/U/D pattern than the straight D/U/D/U pattern. I will continue to work on that.

I just purchased a Bass and started looking online for basic lessons to get a feel on getting to know some basics. I like old funk tunes. I believe they have the best bass lines. I found your youtubes and notice that you give excellent instructions that’s easy to understand and follow. I’m wondering if you still are doing your Funky Friday’s, I believe that’s what you call it, and do you have any Bar-Kays riffs in your bag, other than Soul Finger, that you can do a YouTube lesson on?
I really enjoyed the bass lessons I’ve viewed so far. Great work keep doing what your doing.

Hi Eric I really enjoy learning from your videos I’m a beginner one or your videos teaches play 5 notes instead of 4 this is what I was doing and it was boring after I changed to5 notes it sounded so much better.
